Abseil raises over £20,000 for Barnsley Hospice

It was a pleasure to work with Barnsley Hospice once again on 16th May, delivering a two-line fundraising abseil at Barnsley College. 

As a Barnsley-based business ourselves, it's always particularly rewarding to work with local charities making a difference in our community. Better still, it was right around the corner for our crew!

£20,000+ raised at Barnsley Hospice Abseil

The event saw a fantastic group of supporters take on the challenge, raising £20,118 for the hospice. With an average of over £540 raised per participant – well above our typical fundraising average of around £425 – the event was a huge success. It shows that you don't need hundreds of participants to generate significant funds for a great cause.  

The hospice received some fantastic feedback from fundraisers following the event:

“One off the bucket list before I’m 50 as well as raising money for you guys!”

“Thank you as well for the amazing opportunity. It’s not every day I can stand on top of my college building and look over the edge of the amazing town. I can’t wait to partake in it next year. I've nominated my family as well for it next year. It was a lot of fun so thank you again.”

And from one of the day's superhero abseilers: 

“Spider-man enjoyed it. 🤣🕷️🕸️”

Supporting Vital Hospice Care 

Funds raised through the abseil will help Barnsley Hospice continue providing specialist palliative and end of life care to local people living with life-limiting illnesses, as well as support for their families.

Alongside expert clinical care, the hospice offers emotional, practical and bereavement support to improve quality of life when it matters most. Every pound raised helps a dedicated team of staff and volunteers continue delivering these vital services across the Barnsley community.

A Successful Day for Barnsley Hospice 

Although Big Bang has delivered events for the hospice before, this was the first year the event had been led by a new Events Fundraiser. We were delighted to receive the following feedback from Julia Radwell: 

“There was a great vibe on Saturday and lots wanted to go up again after their descent plus even one of our event fundraisers had a go! 

This was my first year running the event and Big Bang were very helpful in their communication before and during the day. Organised and efficient setting up and packing down. They were very accommodating of people and supportive when needed. 

They motivated a lot of people to have another go too. I would definitely recommend the company to others and use them again, and am interested to find out more about the zip wire experience.”

This was made possible thanks to the support of several generous local businesses. Ardagh Glass, Trust Ford and JP Scaffolding Solutions all played a part in helping Barnsley Hospice deliver another successful fundraising event for the local community.
