In this article, we’re going to explore 3 great events from the past year and what helped them to be so successful. We’ll also be sharing some tips to make your own upcoming abseil incredible!

1 - Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust raise £40,000 with Abseil - far exceeding their target!

Why it worked - Proactive Volunteers & Engaging Costumes

This two-line abseil took place in October and was a roaring success for the NHS Trust. Surpassing their fundraising targets and receiving brilliant feedback from participants, the team at MTW Hospitals Charity was over the moon with the event - and they want something even bigger this year!

An eager team of volunteers meant that this event was streamlined and slick from start to finish. From signing people in, giving out branded t-shirts, providing words of encouragement, and awarding medals after the accomplishment, the volunteers played a crucial role in ensuring everything ran smoothly.

Multiple touch points throughout the day, combined with the fun costumes and wigs that many abseilers wore, boosted community morale and made this an enjoyable day to remember!

2 - Abseil at KPMG’s Office Building Fundraises Over £100,000 for Marie Curie!

Why it worked - Corporate Partnerships & Lots of Employees

A towering 227-ft Abseil down KPMG’s sleek Canary Wharf headquarters saw an incredible 255 staff members take on the challenge.

KPMG has supported Marie Curie since 2021, this three-day event marked the end of a hugely successful three-year partnership.

A big reason why KPMG could host an event of this scale was the sheer number of employees available to them. Whilst being one of The Big Four certainly helps, this doesn’t mean similar results are unattainable for smaller corporations.

Many businesses now share office spaces. Consider reaching out to other tenants in your space to organise a collaborative event and pool together your top resources!

3 - Bishop and Vicar Abseil through Rotherham Minster to Kickstart Fundraising Plans!

Why it worked - Out-of-the-ordinary and Attention-Grabbing

This unusual stunt was certainly a different kind of day for the Bishop and Vicar of Rotherham Minster, who made the descent from the bell tower to the central transept of the historic church.

The daring stunt was designed to kickstart the parish’s £3m fundraising campaign, Building Hope In The Heart Of Rotherham, which aims to transform the Grade I listed building into a modern space.

A spokesperson for Rotherham Mister said "We believe that this is the first time any UK Bishop has ever abseiled down from a bell tower inside any Minster in the UK".

The uniqueness of this project helped greatly in its success as an awareness campaign, and drew a lot of media attention!
