Abseil raises over £20,000 for Lewis-Manning Hospice Care
Earlier this summer, we collaborated with Lewis-Manning Hospice Care to deliver its 'Leap for Lewis-Manning' abseil challenge from the Ocean 80 building in Bournemouth.
Taking place across 3rd and 4th July, the event saw around 85 people step over the edge and take on the abseil in support of the hospice.
Together, participants raised over £20,000 for Dorset's independent hospice charity, Lewis-Manning Hospice Care, helping the charity continue to provide outstanding hospice care and support to local people living with life-limiting illnesses, as well as their carers and loved ones.
Top fundraiser raises more than £2,700
Among those taking part was Stephen, the event's top fundraiser, who raised an incredible £2,700+ for Lewis-Manning Hospice Care.
Stephen is currently receiving support from the hospice following the loss of his wife in December 2024. On his JustGiving page, he explained why supporting Lewis-Manning and its Bereavement Councelling Service was so important to him:
"Raising money for Lewis-Manning Hospice Care and Lewis Manning Bereavement Counselling Service in these uncertain times enables our clinical staff, who always go above and beyond, to care for families across East Dorset and Purbeck."
They bring sunshine into patient's lives during some of the most difficult times, providing exceptional care and support for people with life-limiting illness, their carers and loved ones. I am currently receiving excellent counselling after my beloved wife lost her battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy in December 2024."
Reflecting on the response he received from those around him, Stephen said one of the highlights was:
"The absolute joy I experienced from all those friends, colleagues and family members who responded so generously."
He also spoke on the sense of community created by everyone involved in the event:
"The pure sense of fellowship enjoyed by all the donors, organisers and participants who made for such a successful fundraising achievement."
Positive feedback on the abseil from Lewis-Manning Hospice Care
We were delighted to receive some fantastic feedback from the fundraising team at Lewis-Manning Hospice Care following the event, particularly around the planning, safety and participant experience:
"It has been an absolute pleasure working with Big Bang Experiences to deliver our Leap for Lewis-Manning abseil challenge. From the initial planning stages through to event day, their team was professional, knowledgeable and incredibly supportive.
Their attention to detail, commitment to safety and ability to create an exciting, memorable experience for our participants gave us complete confidence throughout. The feedback from our supporters has been overwhelmingly positive, and the event simply wouldn't have been the same without their expertise. We would highly recommend Big Bang Experiences to any organisation looking to deliver a safe, engaging and well-managed challenge event."
Stephen also passed on his thanks to the Big Bang team, highlighting the support participants received througout every stage of the abseil:
"A really special thank you to the abseil team. They all made such a difference to the whole experience. Their ability to keep us all calm throughout the various stages, right from the registration, harness fitting, transfer to the rooftop, explanation of the controls and how to start the 'walk and sitting position'. What a fabulous team of professionals!"
With around 85 participants and over £20,000 raised, the Leap for Lewis-Manning abseil was a fantastic example of how a challenge event can bring supporters together while generating valuable funds for a local charity.
A huge congratulations to everyone who took part, fundraised, donated or helped make the event possible.
