Strong charity fundraising results from the Wainhouse Tower Abseil

At the end of May, we hosted our first multi-charity abseil at Wainhouse Tower in Halifax.

This event has been on the cards for some time, but previous attempts were unfortunately postponed due to poor weather, so it was fantastic to finally see it come to fruition.

Wainhouse Tower proudly holds the title of the world's tallest folly - a structure built purely for decorative purposes rather than any practical function. This ornate Grade II listed landmark offers panoramic views across Halifax and features an impressive 369 steps to the top.

Ten organisations took part in this year's event, and we're delighted to share some of the fundraising results.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service Charity raises £4,105 at Wainhouse Tower Abseil

Yorkshire Ambulance Service Charity raised £4,105, helping to fund life-saving CPR training, community defibrillators, staff wellbeing initiatives and other projects that go beyond NHS funding.

Following the event, the charity shared this feedback:

“Thank you to the team for all their help and support at the Wainhouse Tower Abseil.

It was a fantastic day with perfect weather and incredible views from the top.

Stepping over the edge was certainly nerve-wracking - we have received lots of positive feedback from the group, with everyone expressing how grateful they were for the support and encouragement they received in helping them complete the abseil.

What an experience! We had an amazing day. and were delighted to raise over £4,000 for Yorkshire Ambulance Service Charity.”

Candlelighters supporters raise £2,225

Four supporters from Candlelighters raised £2,225 to support children and families affected by cancer.

Based in Yorkshire, Candlelighters provides lifetime support services to families while also investing in vital childhood cancer research. The group thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and the charity is already keen to get involved again next year.

PIB Insurance Brokers raise £7,356 for St Leonard's Hospice

On the Friday morning of the event, a large team from local business PIB Insurance Brokers took on the abseil in support of St Leonard's Hospice.

There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the morning, with colleagues cheering each other on as they made their descent from the tower.

Together, the team raised an impressive £7,356. We were also pleased to receive the following feedback:

‘Big Bang ran a hugely successful abseiling event for our company to raise money for our chosen charity. The event ran smoothly, and every participant felt hugely supported by the team throughout the day.

Wainhouse Tower was a fantastic location albeit rather daunting when you got to the top, however with the patience and guidance of the team every one of our colleagues managed to scale the abseil and came away smiling from ear to ear. Thank you Big Bang for helping us arrange such an incredible day.’

Fresh Futures raises £2,000

We've also heard from Fresh Futures, a regional charity supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged children, young people and families across Kirklees.

Seven supporters took on the challenge, helping the charity raise £2,000.

The team commented:

“We’re delighted that seven incredibly brave supporters took on this challenge for Fresh Futures. The money raised will make a real difference to children and young people across Kirklees.

We’re already looking forward to next year’s event and would encourage anyone who can to get involved in this brilliant event!"

Beautiful weather, stretching views, 269 steps and an adrenaline challenge to remember made this a hugely enjoyable event for our team, as well as charities and their supporters.

It's always rewarding to see so many organisations benefiting from height-based fundraising events, and we're looking forward to returning to Wainhouse Tower in the future.
