We’re thrilled to share the success of the stunning zipwire event for Dorothy House Hospice, which took place at Bath's Royal Crescent in early March. For our events crew, this was one of the first large-scale events of 2025, and they pulled it off spectacularly!
Set against the iconic Royal Crescent in Bath, this historic Grade I listed landmark provided a breathtaking backdrop for three exhilarating days of ziplining. Featured in the popular Netflix period drama Bridgerton, the sweeping crescent is made up of 30 terraced houses and is a remarkable example of traditional Georgian architecture.

Spanning over 650 feet, the zipline quickly became the talk of the town. By the end of the weekend, nearly 500 people had taken part, with many spectators signing up spontaneously.
Each ticket served as a donation to Dorothy House Hospice and contributed to the incredible fundraising figure of £94,000! The hospice also hosted a pop-up shop where people could purchase new and used items; this added over £2,000 to the final total.
We were blessed with fantastic weather! Although early morning setups were chilly, the sunshine soon emerged and bathed the crescent for all three days. The atmosphere on Saturday and Sunday was particularly special, with the Lower Lawn filled with people soaking up the sunshine and cheering on the participants.

The event captured widespread attention, even making headlines on local and national news. Both BBC and ITV News covered the zipline as part of a broader story highlighting the ongoing challenges facing hospices today.
Adding to the fun, participants embraced the occasion with creative costumes. One of the first to take the plunge was dressed in full Regency attire, perfectly matching the historic surroundings! Other standout outfits included Iron Man, Evel Knievel, and even a giant chicken. Charity leaders and long-term supporters also joined in, many taking part in memory of loved ones.
When asked about the inspiration behind the zipline, Dan Varley, Community & Events Fundraiser, shared:
“We needed to find new and exciting ways to get people in our community involved and raising sponsorship, and a zipline felt like a fantastic opportunity. With the cost of living crisis, raises in national insurance contributions and us aiming to provide more care across our community, we need to raise even more each year.”

The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, both from zipline participants and the events organiser. Dan expressed his gratitude, saying:
“I just wanted to write to say what a fantastic job the team did over the weekend. I had so many comments from participants about how much joy the team brought and how at ease they made everyone feel, especially those nervous about the challenge. They always had smiles on their faces, which, given the long hours and effort they put in, was truly appreciated. Blessed with glorious weather and your fantastic team, the event was a huge success. A massive thank you to you all.”
