6 Tips for Planning a Successful Abseil Fundraiser

Overwhelmed at the thought of trying to plan an abseil fundraiser? We’ve broken things down into 6 smaller steps to make the event planning process as stress-free as possible for you.
Choosing Your Venue (Crane or Building Abseil)
The first step is figuring out where you’d like to host your abseil. This could be a building that’s relevant to your cause, like a hospital or charity headquarters, or a local landmark. If there are no suitable buildings, we also offer a mobile option - our twin-cage crane operation.
Deciding between a fixed building abseil and a crane setup will depend on what’s feasible at your desired location and the impression you want to create. We’re happy to help you weigh the pros and cons of each.

Site Visit & Line Planning
Once you’ve landed on a desired venue, reach out to our team to organise a site visit. A member of our operations team will travel to you and assess safety and logistics. This helps us confirm whether the abseil is feasible, and will let us determine the number of possible lines, as well as the flow of participants.
At this stage, we’ll also discuss how many event days you’re interested in.
Set the Dates
We advise choosing a date that’s at least 6 months away. This gives breathing room for event planning as well as plenty of time to recruit fundraisers. For your participants, the more time you can give them to fundraise, the better! Avoid clashing with major holidays or local events, and think if weekdays or weekends would be best for your audience of supporters.

Fundraiser Recruitment & Promotion
Begin to spread the word as early as possible to maximise results for your cause. Use social media, email campaigns, press releases, as well as your existing network, to attract participants. Think about making a ‘fundraising pack’ with tips, key dates, safety info, and branded t-shirts for people to wear on the day. Keep the momentum going with regular updates and fundraising milestone announcements.

Event Day Execution
It’s time to get abseiling! Our team will handle all the logistics from check-in and safety briefings to managing the abseil lines, and creating a fun, high-energy atmosphere. All you need to do is turn up, cheer on your fundraisers and engage with your supporters. Don’t forget to capture some photos and videos for your charity’s social channels. This can also help hugely with future promotions!

Celebrate & Follow-Up
After the event, take time to publicly celebrate your fundraisers and thank everyone involved. Share highlights, photos, and key results on social media to show appreciation and build momentum. Send thank-you messages to participants, including how much was raised and the impact it will make. Follow up with a post-event update that highlights outcomes and keeps supporters engaged. Finally, gather feedback and reflect on what worked well to help shape an even better event next time.
