Close to £12,000 raised by Abseil at Rotherham Minster!

Big Bang Experiences recently returned for our second event with Rotherham Minster - a rare opportunity to abseil through the inside of the historic building!
In 2024, this abseil was first taken on by members of the clergy as part of an awareness campaign for the ongoing Building Hope in the Heart of Rotherham project. This year, it evolved into a public fundraising event, with local residents taking the plunge to support their church.
A Vicar, a Madame Mayor, and a Police Officer abseiling inside a Minster may sound like the start of a bad joke, but these were just a few of the 35 congregation members who completed this abseil on the 7th of June!
In total, £11,939 was raised for the Minster, with donations still trickling in. This impressive total supports the church’s £3.2 million goal to transform the space. ITV News also covered the event, aiming to further publicise the Building Hope in the Heart of Rotherham campaign.
Dating back to the 15th century, the campaign plans to modernise the Grade I listed Minster into a versatile space for concerts, exhibitions, community support, and celebrations. Becky Middleton, the Minster’s Social Supermarket Project Worker, shared abseiler feedback:

Reverend Canon Phil Batchford, Vicar of Rotherham Minster, also praised the experience:
