Zip Wire Day for Rugby Football Union at Allianz Stadium!
Ahead of the multi-charity weekend at The Twickenham Zip Wire, we were proud to host Rugby Football Union partners and box holders, as well as supporters from the Injured Players Foundation and their ambassador – former England Rugby Union player David Flatman.
For box holders and partners who visit Allianz Stadium regularly, this was a unique opportunity to experience it in a way they hadn’t before, and many few get to. We were delighted to hear that the event exceeded expectations, with guests saying they enjoyed seeing the stadium outside of a standard matchday and getting a rare perspective of England Rugby’s iconic pitch – an experience many said they would happily recommend to family and friends.
Later in the afternoon, we welcomed the Injured Players Foundation – England Rugby’s official charity. As well as building awareness, the zip wire offered something a little different from traditional challenge events. One of the RFU organisers commented that not everyone has the time or opportunity to train for challenges such as the London Marathon or the Great North Run, and that the zip wire provided a unique way for individuals to support the charity through a physical challenge.
Our team also helped coordinate the camera crew accompanying ambassador David Flatman – or “Flats”, as he’s often known. With a fear of heights, the IPF wanted to capture Flats completing the zip wire and overcoming his nerves. Check out some of the footage here!

Now a rugby pundit, Flats played eight times for the England national team between 2000 and 2002 until injuries sadly forced his retirement. He is heavily involved with the Injured Players Foundation, and the ‘Fly with Flats’ event was pitched to supporters as a special chance to meet the legacy player pitchside before zipping across the famous stadium.
Before heading up to launch, the group met in the event base for tea and coffee, where Flats gave a short talk about the charity’s important work, as well as openly sharing his rising nerves! After being kitted out in helmets and harnesses, they moved pitchside for photos and then made their way up to the zip wire platform together, before soaring over the hallowed turf.
It was brilliant to hear that the event ran smoothly for the RFU, and we really appreciated this kind feedback from Stephanie Giles, IPF Fundraising Officer:
“Big Bang Experiences made the organisation and running of the event super easy, and the staff were knowledgeable and lovely to deal with throughout the entire process. Thank you for enabling us to do this event!”
