Over £39,000 Raised by Springtime Santa Zipwire!

With most fundraising now in, we’re hugely pleased to be able to report on last month’s event with St Andrew's Hospice.

Sunday 6th of April saw around 100 Santa’s descend on Strathclyde Park near Glasgow, for an event dubbed ‘Santa’s Zippity Doo Dash’ - a Springtime Santa zipwire with participants dressed in Santa suits…in April!

While some donations are still coming in, St Andrew’s Hospice has already raised over £39,000 from this one-day event - a phenomenal success! As part of their Christmas community fundraising campaign, the funds raised here are crucial to sustaining the hospice’s wide range of services, and will help support the hospice’s ongoing work in providing specialist care and support to patients and families across Lanarkshire.

The event was originally scheduled for the festive season, in line with St Andrew’s annual ‘Santa Dash’, but bad weather forced a postponement. Rather than rebrand the event, the hospice decided to embrace the unexpected timing and keep the Santa theme - a decision that paid off.

With a storeroom full of Santa suits at the ready, they reimagined the event as a springtime spectacle. The result was the quirky and eye-catching ‘Santa’s Zippity Doo Dash’, which added a thrill-seeking twist to their traditional fundraiser. Seeing Santa's ziplining across the park in April turned heads, started conversations, and drew in curious passers-by, keeping the Christmas spirit alive in a fun and memorable way.

Some notable feedback from the event included:

‘Was an amazing day, one of the best days of my life experience-wise. Very well organised. I will definitely do more.’

‘The team were very professional but still fun and put you at ease, big shout out to them! 👏’

‘Everyone involved in the event made me feel relaxed from the word go, as I was a bit

apprehensive about the zip slide. Everyone was helpful and answered any questions

that I had before the event.’

‘It was well organised & such an amazing experience. Thanks to everyone who supported the event.’

St Andrew’s Hospice provides inpatient, outpatient and wellbeing services to people with advanced life-limiting illnesses, as well as those with associated complex specialist palliative care needs, in the North Lanarkshire and Clydesdale areas. They also offer grief and bereavement support to families, carers,  and the wider community. You can find out more about them here.

Richard Tott, the hospice’s Schools and Community Development Co-Ordinator, has worked with Big Bang a number of times on various Zipwires and Bungee Jumps, and commented that the event went very well.
