Inspiring Future Innovators: STEM Kart at Queen Elizabeth’s School
On 9th October, our STEM Kart experience rolled into Queen Elizabeth’s School, where Year 9 Catalyst and Scholars students spent the day diving into the exciting world of science, engineering, and innovation.
Led by the school’s Head of Physics and Catalyst Coordinator, the session gave students a hands-on opportunity to explore how classroom theory connects to real-world design, sustainability, and technology.
Developed by Big Bang Experiences, STEM Kart brings STEM to life through interactive learning and a focus on green technologies, and inspires young people to think creatively about building a more sustainable future.
Throughout the session, students explored everything from ergonomics and design through Formula One-style steering wheels to data analysis and applied physics on our inflatable racetrack. They discovered how science, design, and human factors engineering come together to shape real-world innovations.
Back in the classroom, the learning continued as pupils investigated aerodynamics and forces, applying their findings to design their own eco-friendly go-karts, combining creativity with scientific precision and a good dose of friendly competition!
The day was filled with energy and discovery, and the feedback from staff and students alike said it all. Louise Fenner, Catalyst Coordinator at QEH, commented on the day:
“The look on the pupils' faces when they came outside and saw the racetrack was a lovely mixture of joy and slight disbelief that they were going to have so much fun! Lots of the pupils have since commented how the lesson content was brought alive through the practical session.”
A huge thank you to Queen Elizabeth’s School for hosting such an enthusiastic and curious group of students, and to the teaching team for helping us make STEM learning truly unforgettable.
