University of Glasgow Abseil raises £11,000 for their Annual Giving Day

The University of Glasgow have recently shared the results from their annual Giving Day, a 36-hour community fundraiser in support of the University’s priority areas.

As part of the celebrations, we delivered an abseil for their fundraisers on 6 November. The challenge was originally planned for early October during Giving Day itself, but due to adverse weather we rescheduled to ensure everyone had the safest experience possible.

Cheered on by their unicorn mascot, 31 fundraisers took on the abseil from one of the University’s residential buildings, and collectively raised over £11,000. Their efforts contributed to an impressive £143,000 total generated across the 36-hour Giving Day.

The event brings together the entire University of Glasgow community, both on campus and online, to support key areas such as:

  • Student Experience: Chancellor’s Fund

  • Student Support: Scholarships, Hardship Fund and IntoUniversity

  • Global Health: Vital medical research including cancer, heart disease, mental health and dementia

We’re very grateful for the kind words shared by Danielle McLaughlin, Support Engagement Officer at the University of Glasgow, whose feedback captured exactly why partnerships like this mean a lot to us:

“We’ve loved working with Big Bang Experiences. The team is incredibly friendly, and their expertise shone through at every stage of the project. They made sure everything ran smoothly, both in the lead-up and on the day, and helped our team and abseilers feel completely safe and in capable hands. We’re already looking forward to working with them again in the future.”

Delivering safe, seamless and memorable challenge events is what we do best, and it’s always inspiring to see the impact they create - we really enjoyed working with the University of Glasgow on this one.
