Nearly £50,000 Raised in Charity Abseil for NHS Hospitals

On Friday, 25th of April, our Big Bang team had a brilliant day hosting an abseil for Epsom and St Heliers Hospital Charity.

This was our first event with Epsom and St Heliers and we’re glad to say it was a huge success for them. The fundraising efforts currently sit at £49,500 with donations and pledges still coming in. This incredible figure was raised by 115 brave participants, who took on the seven-floor abseil in aid of the hospital charity.

The incredible weather in Carshalton led to a buzzing atmosphere throughout the day, which was added to by a variety of birthday-abseilers! The crowd of spectators sung ‘Happy Birthday’ as they made their descent down the side of the building.

Suzanne, an NHS Staff Member, said ‘Thank you so much for all of your hard work organising the abseil. It was terrifying but amazing, and team maternity will definitely be back next year! Could you please feed back to the abseil team just how wonderful they were- so professional, kind and reassuring- everyone was really complimentary about how great they were.’

The day was filled with special moments, with some superhero costumes making their way down the lines, teams coming together to fundraise, patients reunited with staff that cared for them, and children whose life was saved in our hospitals, cheering their mum on down the building.

Karin, a grateful patient who wanted to give back after the care of her daughter said ‘Can you please pass a huge thanks on to all the team on Friday for being so kind and helpful and supportive! While it was still terrifying; it was such a positive thing to be a part of.’

It was great to see the event run so successfully for the charity - this was their first event of this scale and it raised such an incredible amount for the hospitals. Epsom and St Helier Hospitals Charity have already had lots of interest in next year, and even plan to make this an annual event!

Molly Simpson, Head of Charity said ‘This was my sixth Abseil working with Big Bang Experiences, and while I’ve run five before at other NHS Charities, this was by far the biggest challenge - we’re a much smaller team, and it was the first time the hospitals had done anything like this. But once again, the Big Bang Experiences team were incredible from start to finish. They supported me all the way and made the day feel seamless. I’m so grateful for their continued support.’
